Frequently asked questions
You drive, you should keep the fare. Here are straight answers to the questions drivers ask us most.
How much does Uber take from drivers?
About 25% of the fare in most markets. Uber's own help page says it aims to keep its service fee "as close to 25% as possible" (Uber Help), so on a $20 ride Uber keeps about $5. In the Netherlands it is worse: 25% plus 21% VAT on the fee, over 30% in total (FNV union white paper, 2020). Full country breakdown: how much Uber takes from drivers.
Is it legal to take private clients as a ride-hail driver?
It depends on your country, and often on your city. Pick a country below to see the short version. Licensing is local, so always check with your authority before your first direct ride. Details per country: turn Uber riders into private clients.
Can Uber deactivate me for taking private bookings?
Yes, that risk is real. Uber's Community Guidelines prohibit off-platform pickups and tell drivers to "never solicit or accept payment outside the Uber Marketplace Platform" (Uber Community Guidelines). Breaking the guidelines "may result in the loss of access to part or all" of the platform. So keep app trips in the app, and build your private client base from rides that were never booked through Uber.
What about insurance on private rides?
Uber's insurance only covers trips run through the app. Uber says so itself: coverage is "limited to qualifying rideshare activity facilitated through the Uber platform", and offline you fall back on your personal policy (Uber's insurance page). Most personal policies do not cover paying passengers. For private rides you need your own commercial or hire-and-reward cover. Ask your insurer before your first private booking.
Is DriverPage really free?
Yes. The free tier gives you your personal booking page where customers can book you directly, and that stays free. The Pro tier adds your own custom domain. We never take a commission on your rides, on any plan.
How do I get paid on private rides?
Your client pays you directly, in cash or by bank transfer, however you agree together. DriverPage never touches the money. No commission, no middleman: the full fare is yours.
How do QR business cards work?
Your page has a QR code. A client scans it with their phone camera and lands straight on your booking page. Share it after good rides and turn one-off passengers into regulars.
Do my clients need an app to book?
No. Your page works in any browser, on any phone. The client fills in the ride, confirms their email address, and the booking reaches you. Nothing to install, no account to create.
How does a booking work?
Four steps. 1) A client sends a ride request through your page. 2) They confirm their email address, so you only see real requests. 3) You send back a fixed-price quote. 4) The client accepts or declines with one click in the email. The price is agreed before anyone gets in the car.
What if a client does not show up or cancels?
You decide. With DriverPage there are no platform penalties and no cancellation-rate score hanging over you. The fixed price is agreed up front, and the terms for no-shows or late cancellations are yours to set with your clients. Many drivers ask new clients for a deposit. Do what works for you.
Do I need to register a business to take private clients?
In most countries you need at least a licence. In the Netherlands a taxi entrepreneur licence (vergunning voor taxivervoer), in the UK your own operator licence, in Italy an NCC authorisation. Rules differ per country and city, so check with your local authority. The details per country: our guide to private clients.
Which languages does DriverPage support?
Six: English, Dutch, French, Italian, Spanish and German. Your booking page speaks your clients' language, so nobody skips booking over a language barrier.
